In simple terms, a housing disrepair claim raised when the condition of a rented property, either through social housing or a private landlord, has deteriorated in a significant and negative way since occupation.

What Are You Entitled to For Your Housing Disrepair Claim?

There are three things that can be awarded to the tenant in a housing disrepair claim, these include:

compensation;

legal costs;
A lot of factors influence the compensation that you might receive. Compensation will factor ‘pain, suffering and loss of amenity’ caused by residing in a house with a disrepair issue or having to vacate it. The rent of the property is also used as a basis to calculate the compensation as are any costs you have incurred to restore the property for more comfortable living.

What Do Our Survey Experts Inspect

Evidence of drains giving off an odour because they are blocked or leaking? -
Structure & Exterior
Inspection of external pipes for supplies of water, gas, electricity and sanitation. Is the structure of a good state of repair? -

Inspection of internal and external windows secure and safe? Are they generally in a good state of repair and thermally efficient? -
